One of the fond memories I have from my time working on my doctoral dissertation is traveling to the Southern Seminary library in Louisville, Kentucky. On a snowy weekend in 2012 I looked through archives, researching the history of Sunday school teacher training in the Southern Baptist Convention. What I discovered surprised me and created a sense that we Southern Baptists have let something extremely important wither away because of lack of attention and blatant apathy.
I am writing to tell you about an exciting new ministry called Entrusted To Teach. Over the past eighteen months God has done amazing things that led to the launch of a ministry which seeks to assist churches and pastors to equip small group Bible teachers.
Bible teachers can fall into the trap of depending completely on the study and work of others in order to save time in lesson preparation. In other words, we sometimes get lazy. Bible teachers should always begin lesson preparation with prayer followed by study of the passage of Scripture to be taught. Never read the thoughts and interpretations of others prior to beginning your own study.
