After an amazing church service in Capernaum, Jesus was invited to Simon’s (aka Peter) house (Luke 4:38-39). Simon decided to take Jesus home with him from church. What a novel idea? How many times have we left Jesus at church? Upon entering Simon’s home, Jesus was told that Simon’s mother in law had a high fever. At the end of verse 38 we read, “They made request of Him on her behalf.” Parallel accounts of this story found in Matthew 8 and Mark 1 reveal that Jesus bent over her and took her by the hand. He rebuked the fever and Simon’s mother in law immediately got up and began to serve those in the house. When Jesus is invited into our home, He compassionately helps us with our burdens. He brings with Him supernatural power to bless. Having Jesus in the home will bring about an overflow that will impact the surrounding community. Check out what happens next. Somehow word of the healing got out. “When the sun was setting, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each one, he healed them. Moreover, demons came out of many people, shouting, ‘You are the Son of God!’ But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew he was the Christ” (Luke 4:40-41). Mark adds, “The whole town gathered at the door” (Mark 1:33). Imagine the scene. After sundown when Sabbath is over, the Jews are once again allowed to carry burdens and soon people line outside of Simon’s door. What happens? “Now when the sun was setting, all those who had any who were sick with various diseases brought them to him, and he laid his hands on every one of them and healed them” (Luke 38:40). Jesus healed every one of them. Picture this from a spiritual standpoint. If you have invited Jesus into the home of your heart, the overflow should be a witness to those around you. Moreover, Jesus will heal everyone that comes to Him!
